They work in architectural practices, construction companies, and building design firms, producing everything from floor plans to complex BIM-coordinated multi-storey building documentation. **What the work involves:** Producing architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details), BIM coordination using Revit or ArchiCAD, preparing building consent documentation, drafting specifications and schedules, coordinating with engineers and consultants. **Why NZ needs you:** NZ has a housing shortage of 80,000+ homes and is actively building. Architectural firms and design-build companies are consistently short of experienced drafters. BIM skills are particularly valued.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Architectural Studies, Architectural Technology, or Building Design (NZQCF Level 5–6 or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2–3 years architectural drafting experience
  • Revit and/or ArchiCAD proficiency strongly preferred
  • NZ Building Code familiarity advantageous

Registration / Licensing: No mandatory NZ licensing for draftspersons. Architects must be registered with the NZRAB, but draftspersons are exempt. Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) design licence can be obtained to sign off restricted building work designs.
