About This Occupation in New Zealand

⭐ Green List Tier 1 — Straight to Residence

This occupation qualifies for direct New Zealand residence. With a job offer from an accredited employer and the right qualifications, you can apply for residence immediately — no need to wait two years.

Project Builders and Building Project Managers oversee the end-to-end delivery of residential and commercial construction in New Zealand. NZ's housing shortage (estimated 60,000–80,000 dwellings below required supply) and the government-funded Kāinga Ora social housing programme drive sustained demand for experienced building project managers capable of delivering multi-unit and medium-density residential developments. Commercial construction in health, education, and infrastructure adds further demand. Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) registration is required to supervise restricted building work (structural, external moisture management). Green List Tier 1 status means qualified project builders with a job offer can apply for NZ residence directly, without a two-year qualifying period.

NZ Salary Range for Project Builder / Building Project Manager

NZ$90,000 – NZ$155,000
Senior project builders managing multi-unit residential projects earn NZ$130k–NZ$180k.

Salaries are based on NZ market data. Regional and rural positions may offer allowances, relocation support, and retention bonuses in addition to base salary.

Is Project Builder / Building Project Manager on the NZ Green List? — FAQs

Is Project Builder on the NZ Green List?

Yes. Project Builder / Building Project Manager (ANZSCO 133112) is Green List Tier 1 — Straight to Residence. Experienced project builders with a qualifying job offer can apply for NZ residence directly.

What is the difference between Construction Project Manager (133111) and Project Builder (133112)?

ANZSCO 133111 (Construction Project Manager) covers broader infrastructure and civil construction. ANZSCO 133112 (Project Builder) specifically covers building construction — residential and commercial buildings through to handover. Both are Green List Tier 1.

Is LBP registration mandatory to immigrate to NZ as a Project Builder?

LBP registration is required to personally supervise restricted building work (structural, roofing, external cladding). For a PM role where you manage contractors and subcontractors rather than doing restricted work yourself, LBP is not mandatory but is valued by employers and improves your employment options.
