About This Occupation in New Zealand

🔵 AEWV Eligible — Skill Level 3

This is an ANZSCO Skill Level 3 occupation, qualifying for an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) with up to 5 years duration. After 2 years of NZ work experience you can apply for Skilled Migrant Category residence.

Corporate Treasurers in New Zealand manage an organisation's financial resources — overseeing cash management, liquidity, foreign exchange hedging, debt and capital markets, banking relationships, and treasury risk policy. They work for listed companies, large government-owned enterprises (Chorus, Meridian, Genesis), infrastructure owners, university endowment funds, and Crown entities. NZ's open economy (significant export and import activity) creates genuine FX hedging and treasury management needs. The Finance and Treasury Association (FTA) of Australia and NZ provides professional standards and the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation.

Is Corporate Treasurer on the NZ Green List? — FAQs

Can a Corporate Treasurer get an AEWV in New Zealand?

Yes. Corporate Treasurer (ANZSCO 132213) is ANZSCO Skill Level 1, qualifying for a 5-year AEWV. Treasury roles in NZ pay well above the NZ$35.00/hr immigration median wage.

Is there demand for corporate treasurers in New Zealand?

NZ has a smaller but active treasury market. Listed companies (Fonterra, Fletcher Building, Air New Zealand, Spark, Meridian Energy), large government-owned enterprises, universities, and Crown entities all have treasury functions. Treasury positions are specialised and relatively few in number — the job market rewards those with overseas large-corporate treasury experience.

Are CTP or AMCT qualifications recognised in New Zealand?

Yes — both the CTP (Association for Financial Professionals, US) and AMCT (Association of Corporate Treasurers, UK) are well-regarded by NZ treasury employers. The Finance & Treasury Association (FTA Australia/NZ) also offers NZ-specific pathways. Many NZ corporate treasurers hold dual CA ANZ + treasury qualifications.
