Internal Auditors provide independent assurance on risk management, internal controls, and governance across NZ's financial services, government, and corporate sectors. The profession is growing in prominence as NZ listed companies, Crown entities, and regulated financial institutions invest in internal audit capability to meet governance and compliance expectations. The Institute of Internal Auditors New Zealand (IIA NZ) supports the profession. As a Green List Tier 1 occupation, experienced internal auditors with a CIA, CA, or CPA qualification and a qualifying job offer can apply for NZ residence directly — no two-year work period required. New Zealand's Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY), major banks, and large Crown entities are the primary employers.
Salaries are based on NZ market data. Regional and rural positions may offer allowances, relocation support, and retention bonuses in addition to base salary.

Yes. The CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) from the Institute of Internal Auditors is globally recognised and well-regarded by NZ employers. IIA NZ is the local affiliate and actively promotes the qualification in the NZ market.
