Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) perform a range of diagnostic laboratory tests — haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, blood banking, and histology — to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment. They work under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Scientists in hospital and community laboratories across NZ's public and private health systems. **What the work involves:** Processing patient samples (blood, urine, tissue), performing routine and specialised diagnostic tests, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment, recording and reporting results, maintaining quality control under ISO 15189 standards. **Why NZ needs you:** NZ's diagnostic laboratories face a chronic shortage of trained technicians. Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ), Labtests, Pacific Laboratory, and Southern Community Laboratories regularly recruit overseas MLTs.
